LURA CORBETT HANNAH
A resident of Manitoulin for more than forty years, Lura Corbett Hannah Corbett (sic) passed away at her home near Manitowaning on Nov. 2nd., and was laid to rest on Nov. 4th in Hilly Grove cemetery.
Born in New York State in 1859 she was descended on her father's side from an Anglo-Norman baron whose Norse ancestors won Normandy under Rollo, the Ganger; and later crossed to England under William, the Conquerer. On her mother's side she drew descent from the Van Buskirk family of Holland, who went from Holland to England, later from England to America; and from the Carpenter family of Amesbury in Wiltshire, England. Her uncommon Norse name Lura has been passed down in her family through the centuries.
In 1890 she married Richard Noble Hannah of Manitoulin and has lived on the Island since that time except for a short while at Spanish, Ont. and Cranbrook, B.C. She had two sons Rollo and Arlie. She is survived by four sisters, Nancy, Emma, Sarah and Mary and a brother Joseph. Another brother Charles predeceased her. Her husband died March 6th 1932.
Possessed of strong religious convictions, she was a woman of noble mind and lofty ideals, of intense loyalty and high patriotism. She leaves a wide circle of friends both in Canada and the United states to mourn her passing.
