MIAMI HELMET August 25, 1898 Edition LETTER FROM CAMP Piqua Boy With Company A at Fernandina Relates Experances FERNANDINA, Fla., Aug. 21, 1898 MR. EDITOR: - No doubt you have had a number of letters from the boys down here. Perhaps, however, this may be interesting to the readers who wish to hear how the Third Ohio is situated at the camp in Fernandina. We are situated about one-half mil e northeast of Fernanfina on a hill overlooking the beautiful river. On the eastern side of us lies the beautiful Atlantic ocean, where the boys enjoy themselves very much. Our brigade marches down to the beach about twice a week for drill, afte r which we stack arms and go swiming. This the boys are fond of, especially when they can ride the large over rolling waves. We were over at the dock this afternoon to se a large tramp steamer from Liverpool. The fireman took us down into the dar k fire room by a number of iron ladders. We were also over to the old fort church where we took dinner with the Sixth New York Artillery boys. They are all anxious to get back home. There are so many reports circulated here in camp that one wearie s of listening to them. We are going to Huntsville, Alabama, sometime this week from where we expect to go back to our native state, Ohio. All the sick who are in the division hospital are getting a thirty day furlough. Company A will not have as many men when it leaves Fernandina as when it left Tampa. Company H of the Third Regiment entertained Company H from the 69th New York. Yours, Bert Inman, Co. A Third Ohio
