    >Uriah went to Ironton, MO August 27, 1864 and enlisted in the Union Army as a private in CO "I" 47th Regiment MO Volunteer infantry. He served until March 29, 1865 when he was honorably discharged at St. Louis, MO. Physical description is : 5' 7" tall, dark complexion and blue eyes, with dark hair. His occupation prior to enlistment was farming. He fought in the battle of Pilot's Knob where he was injured by an explosion on the 30th of September 1864 as they were retreating . On Feb. 16, 1880 he filed for a pension stating that he was suffering from rheumatism in his left hip as a result of this explosion. This request was evidently denied because after the Act of May 11, 1912 he applied again on May 24, 1912. Afte r the Act of May 1, he again applied on Jan 13, 1923 stating he was partially blind and unable to work and had required regular assistance since December 1921. The pension was approved at this time and he drew it until his death, when his widow , Sarah Amanda, applied for her Widow's Pension, which she drew until her death.
