    1835- helpedd organize Masonic Lodge in Texas , Holland Lod ge #36 U.D. It opened 27 Dec. 1835. Dr. Phelps was Treasur er.
    1836 March 19 Dr. Phelps and Anson Jones left Brazoria t o join the Texas Army. He was attached to the medical staf f and during the San Jacinto battle was stationed at a fiel d hospital across from Harrisburg.
    1836 April 22 established a hospital in the home of Lte.Lo renzo de Zavala.
    1838 Dec 13 issued Donation Certificate No. 679 for 640 a cress for being hospital surgeon at San Jacinto.
    1838 Dec 13 received Bounty Certificate No. 5046 for 320 ac res for having served in the Texas Army from 22 March to Ma y 21, 1836.
    1840 TX Tax List 7 slaves, 120 cattle and one silver watc h.
    1845 member of a Brazoria committee to prepare an address i n favor of annexation of Texas to the USA.

    He came to Texas aboard the "Lively" as one of Stephen F. A ustin's Old Three Hundred. Named his home Orozimbo Plantat ion. A large two story white frame house with the now famou s Orozimbo Oak shading the front porch. The house was dama ged by a hurricane in 1932.

    After Santa Anna was captured , he was kept prisoner at Oro zimbo from 1 Aug 1836 thru 26 Nov. 1836. Santa Anna att empted suicide and Dr. Phelps saved his life by pumping hi s stomach.

    Texas officials tried to send Santa Anna to Veracruz on Jun e 1, but rioters carried him off the schooner at Velasco. L ocal leaders whisked the general and his aides to Quintan a for safety in McKinney and Williams warehouse. Eventually , Santa Anna, and his aides were isolated at Orozimbo, th e plantation of Dr. Phelps above Columbia. A plot to rescu e the Mexican general failed.

    One of the best known doctors in Austin's Colony was Jame s Aeneas E. Phelps, from Mississippi, who settled above Col umbia. Other medical men included Drs. Samuel T. Angier o n Chocolate Bayou, Johnson Calhoun Hunter on Oyster Creek i n Fort Bend, Milton Nuckols at San Felipe, Frances F. Well s on the Lavaca River, and Anson Jones who came to Brazori a in 1833. Jones was the fourth and last president of the R epublic of Texas.
