Fred G. Wise died Dec. 26, 1989 in Eureka at the age of 83. He was a native and resident of Fortuna. A lifelong resident of Fortuna, Fred had operated the Hunter and Wise Mortuary in Fortuna for over 25 years, taking the business over from his father, until his retirement in 1955. He loved the outdoors and until the last few years enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed his summers with his children and grandchildren in Washington and at his cabin in Ruth. He was a member of the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years and a Master Mason with Eel River Lodge No. 147 F. & A.M. of Fortuna. He was a member of the Oakland Consistory of Scottish Rite, the Aahmes Shrine of Oakland and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 636 in Eureka. His hobbies included gardening, square dancing, traveling and being a jack-of-all trades. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Wahl of Eureka and Marilyn and Ray Cesaretti of Eureka; a sister and brother-in-law, Uarda and Harold Prior of Eureka; four grandchildren, Lance and Vicki Cesaretti, Scott Wahl, Kirk Cesaretti and his wife Cindy, and Jimmy Rodgers; a great-grandchild, Ellen Cesaretti, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nora Wise, and his wife of 52 years, Elsie. Private family graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home, Eureka. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Humboldt, P.O. Box 3611, Eureka, CA 95502, or to donor's favorite charity.
