all the Lapham siblings attended Filton school to age 7 then took tram from Horfield to Bishopston
attending Bishops Road Elementary School

if the weather was good they walked the 3 miles and spent the ticket money on sweets

Alison 1919 and May won scholarships to Colston Girls Scool

Alison returnd to Filton school as a pupil teacher 1925

Alison amd Olive went on to train as teachers Brighton Municipal Training College 1926-8

In her final year, my mother told me, the City of Birmingham Education department visited the College to recruit teachers
She passed the interview and was offered ajob.
She accepted at once because jobs were hard to get in 1928
She moved to Birmingham and lived in digs going home to her parents for the school holidays.
One day she was walking up New Street she met another old girl from Colston who was married to a bank manager. She was invited home to tea and introduced to my father.

Many letters have survived from their courtship, Alison in fact hoarded letters and school reports, both her own and mine, and left a remarkable archive includig her birthday book whichshe used from age 9 until shedied aged 91
