Jeremiah Bailey Sr. arrived in Rowan County NC some time before September 1753.

Jeremiah Bailey was born about 1709 in Newport Rhode Island.
Jeremiah’s mother Elizabeth (Rogers) Bailey probably named Jeremiah
after her brother Jeremiah Rogers.

1725: Joseph Hull Jr. and Susanna his wife, to James Halls, 27A bounded: land in possession
of Wm Bently, land in possession of Jeremiah Boss, ye sd Joseph Hull, John Tift, Jan. 27, 1724/5.
Witnesses: Anne Rogers, Rebeckah Rogers, George Babcock Jr., Jeremiah Bailey. [Westerly
Rhode Island Deeds Vol 4 Page 103 FHL film #940,233]

Note: Jeremiah’s father Samuel Bailey also witnesses a 1719 deed for Joseph and Susanna Hull.
Samuel Bailey's family was the only Bailey's living in Westerly during this time period. Jeremiah’s
first cousins Anne and Rebeckah Rogers witnesses on the above Deed were sisters of Peleg and
Job Rogers.

1734/5: Jeremiah Bailey’s first cousins Peleg and Job Rogers sold their land in Westerly Rhode Island
and moved to Bertie County NC. At this time I have no documents but I believe Jeremiah Bailey Sr. left
Westerly Rhode Island and came with his first cousins to North Carolina.

Note: Some time before September 1750 Jeremiah Bailey Sr. moved his family from Goshen Swamp
NC to the forks of the Yadkin River in Anson County NC. This part of Anson County became Rowan County NC in 1753.

1750: Robert Jones 29 September 1750 280 acres in New Hanover County on the N side of Goshen
Swamp-being the Land that Jerry Bailey built a cabbin on. [Colony of North Carolina 1735 - 1764, Abstracts
of Land Patents Volume One by Margaret M. Hofmann, page 250]

Note: Research suggests Jeremiah Bailey Sr. was squatting on the Land on Goshen Swamp. Also living
on the North side of Goshen Swamp was a John Rogers. Peleg Rogers died in New Hanover County NC
and had a son named John.

1753 Sept. Jeremiah Bailey petitioned this Court for a license to keep ferry over the Yadkin River and
at the Plantation where he now lives. Granted security proposed John Whisides and John Dunn.

where he now lives. Granted security proposed John Whisides and John Dunn.

1754 March 22, Peter Aron (appellant) vs. Jeremiah Bailey (appealer) the consideration of the court was that the
appellant shall have a new trial this next court the verdict of this Jury not being agreeable. (Peter Aaron also
had a license to keep a Public House)

1758 25 May – Witness: John Henry and Jeremiah Bailey called for evidence in William Linn vs. William Harrison.

1759 Jeremiah Bailey and the famous Daniel Boone were listed on the Rowan County Militia List. In 1753 Rowan
county was about as far west one could go in NC. The Rowan County Militia during this time period was fighting
Indians in the FRENCH and INDIAN WAR.

1761 4 April, James Carson 320 acres in Rowan County in the Parish of St. Luke on the North Side of
Grante Creek /s/ James Carson.

(This is the last date that Jeremiah Bailey Sr. has been found in Rowan County NC.)
Robert W. Ramsey, in his book "Carolina Cradle" stated that almost half of the families living in Rowan County moved east
during the French and Indian War 1756-1761.

1761 Some time after February 15 Jeremiah Bailey Sr. moved his family east to Granville County NC. On 5 August 1761
Gilliam Harris sold 297 acres of land on both sides of Newlight Creek to Jeremiah Bailey for 20 pds.
Witness: Britain Fuller John Bridges, (Granville Deed Book E page 4) This is the earliest record found of Jeremiah Bailey
in Granville Co. N.C.

1761 Tax list Granville Co. NC, Jeremiah Bailey and two sons (Richard & Jeremiah C.) no blacks listed.

1761 Tax list Granville Co. NC, Jeremiah Bailey and two sons (Richard & Jeremiah C.) no blacks listed.

1761 Deed Book E page 62 records a deed dated 24 December 1761 from Archibald Graham
to John Mann, witnessed by Gilliam Harris, Jeremiah Bailey and Solomon Fuller.

1767 Tax list for Granville Co. showed Jeremiah Bailey with 2 white polls (himself & Jeremiah C.)
and Richard Bailey with 1 white poll.

1769 Tax list for Granville Co. showed that Jeremiah Bailey with 3 white poll(himself & William &John),
Jeremiah Jr. with 1 white poll and Richard with 1 white poll.

1769 Granville Co. Deed Book 1 page 326 records a deed on 10 June 1769 from Jeremiah
Bailey Sr. to Richard Bailey for 10 pds. Virgina money for 107 acres of land on both sides of
Newlight Creek, Witness by Gilliam Harris and William Bailey.

Note, Jeremiah Bailey Sr. paid a poll Tax in 1769; he was not listed on the 1771 Tax list
Granville Co. Jeremiah Bailey Sr. was not listed on the 1771 Granville Co. Militia. This
time period in NC a male stop paying poll Tax at the age of 60, also the Militia requirement
was 16-60. With this information Jeremiah Bailey Sr. was born about 1710.



1775 Granville Co. Deed Book L page 210 dated 12 September 1775 records the sale of 150
acres of land on both sides of Newlight Creek to William Bailey by Jeremiah Bailey Sr. for
20 pd. Proclamation money.
