Claude owned a jewelry in Searcy, Ark for many years. There is an old family story that
Jesse James came through Searcy and was carrying gold from earlier bank robberies.
A posse was after him and his horse was not able to carry the load fast enough to escape.
James was reported to have buried the gold in the City Park in Searcy. The story says
Claude found where the gold was buried. Some think he was told the location by a group
of Indians that camped in the rear of their house and saw James bury his loot.
The 1930 census shows the family living on So. Main St, Searcy, Ar. Claude's
occupation shows to be Propriotor, Jewelry Store.
