Note: On Nov 8, 1831, an entry in the Amherst County Deed Book indicates David
bought more land from James L Lamkin and the court made a ruling
on the division of the property left by William Hughes, Jr. It was divided
between David G Hughes and Spottswood Hughes, with Spottswood
having a Guardian since he was not of age in 1831. It referes to the
land as 214 acres including a mansion house. The land is bounded by
the property lines of William Pettyjohn, Rodney Taliaferro, deceased,
Rachel Norcut, Ambrose Burford, Archelaus Reynolds.
On Nov 14, 1831, the Amherst County court records show David
Hughes sold 214 acres of land to Johnathan J. Miles for $950. The
land is described as being along Harris Creek and bounded by
the property lines of William Pettyjohn, Rodney Taliaferro, deceased,
Rachel Norcut (belevied to be widow of Daniel Norcut, d 1818),
Ambrose Burford, Archelaus Reynolds, and Spottswood Hughes.
On May 8, 1834 David G. Hughes is mention in a suit over 114
acres of land. Jonathan J. Miles is also mention in the
entry but it is unclear what the facts of the matter are. The
entry may indicate David Hughes was a resident of Campbell
