Note: WILL OF WILLIAM HOOVER (Huber) My eldest son, BALFER (Balthus, or Baltzer as per records) My sons: JACOB, WILLIAM, and JOHN. My daughter, SUSANNA, w. of Christopher Houts. My daughter, CATHERINE . My wife, MARGRET. My daughter BARBARRY, w. of Benjamin Hackman. My daughter, MARGARET w. of John Crookshanks My daughter, ELIZABETH, wife of Jacob Holsumbeerler (Hotzenbella) My daughter, CHRISTINA, w. of David Bowman. My son, JONATHAN. Written: 6 February 1779 Probated: 25 November 1779 Shenandoah Co VA
Surname spelled, Huber, Hubers, Hover, Huver, Hoover, and Houber in records.
"ELIZABETH (HOTZENBELLA)'s brother JACOB Horsinpiller (HOTZENBELLA) married Elizabeth Hoover, daughter of William Hoover (Huber) of Shenandoah County, Virginia and it was long thought that her husband JACOB HOOVER was also the son of William Hoover, but that is not the case. Jacob Hoover, Elizabeth Hotsinpiller's husband was probably a member of the Hoover (Huber) family of Frederick County, Virginia and was living in Hampshire County by 1779. The other Jacob Hoover, son of William, was unmarried and living in Shenandoah County at the same time." (From the Rhine to the Shenandoah; Vol III, Daniel W. Bly, Gateway Press; Baltimore, Maryland, 2002, p. 20).
Personally, I would like to see further documentation and evidence that WILHELM HUBER & MARGARET of Augusta, Frederick & Shenandoah Co VA are NOT the parents of JACOB HUBER who married Elizabeth Hotzenbella.
Documentation on WILHELM/WILLIAM HUBER Emigrated 1736 from Palantine Region of Germany to Philadelphia, PA.
Sept 16, 1736 Ship's manifest, "Princess Augusta" Samuel Merchant, master, from Rotterdam to Philadelphia PA. WILHELM HUBER
Probably lived Berks, or Lancaster Co PA for several years before moving to Augusta Co Virginia. May have migrated through Washington or Frederick Co MD (still trying to verify this)
WILHELM/WILLIAM HUBER b 1700 was living near the town of Strasburg, in what was then Frederick Co VA in 1760-1770. After 1772, Strasburg was in Shenandoah Co VA, and very briefly in 1775 in Dunmore Co VA.
Wilhelm/William was living on Bowman's Mill Run, near Jacob Bowman, son of Christian Bowman. Christian Bowman was also the father of David Bowman who married Wilhelm/William's daughter Christina (see land deed documentation below)
Land deed Aug 6, 1749 Augusta Co VA: WILLIAM HUBER of Augusta Co; 168 acres said county; surveyed: Mr George Byrne; on N. R. of Shannandoah, adjacent Charles Huddle.
Land deed Jan 3, 1752, Jacob Bowman, son of Christian Bowman of Augusta Co VA; 90 acres in said county; surveyed: Mr George Byrne; adjacent WILLIAM HOUBER and Charles Huddle. (William's daughter Christina married David Bowman, son of Christian Bowman, Jacob Bowman's brother)
May 5-6, 1755 WILHELM HUBER and Margaret his wife, sell to Samuel Fry for 36 pounds, 5 shillings, 168 acres on the N. side of the N. River of the Shenandoah, adjoining land of Charles Huddle. Huber signs in German. (Fry family also settled in Hampshire Co VA)
Oct 20, 1766 Frederick Co VA; WILLIAM HOOVER of Frederick Co; 300 acres on Bowman's Mill Run in said county; Surveyed: Robert Rutherford; Adj Geoge Dilley, Jacob Bowman, Frederick Opp, Michael & Bartine Fezel; and George Taylor.
Aug 25, 1770 Frederick Co VA; Frederick Stoner of Frederick Co; 147 acres on Tumbling Run near Strasburg in said County; Surveyed: Peter Stevens; adj said Stoner: WILLIAM HOOVER, Laurence Snap.
1775 Dunmore Co VA census; WILLIAM HOBER 5 males 16+; 1 male under 16; 6 females 16+ (unless this is WILLIAM HUBER Jr, son of WILHELM & MARGARET HUBER)
Will probated 1779 Shenandoah Co VA

"Huber--Hoover History" by Harry M Hoover, publ 1928; not about my particular Huber/Hoover line, but page 31-33 details the migration path of colonial era German immigrants from Philadelphia to York & Lancaster Co PA to Maryland to the Valley of Virginia (Augusta, Frederick, Hampshire, Shenandoah Counties) to Bedford , Huntingdon or Somerset Co PA to Ohio--which is the exact route that my family took in their migrations.
This book also details MATTHIAS and JACOB HUBER, who migrated from Lancaster Co PA and also lived briefly in Shenandoah Co VA but were Mennonites.
