Margaret Wells "In an online diary of Rev Reuben Phillips (brother to Elizabeth Phillips who married Thomas Wells' son Henry), I found the following information
HAYWOOD COUNTY, NC 1816 - 1818 - Diary of Reuben Phillips
[1815] That year I purchased a farm from William Eaton in Haywood County on the head of Hominy creek. I let my brother Elisha live on it as he had just married and had no farm, we united our interest as one; he farmed while I taught school and our interest was as one until the year I married and he still lives on the place and raised some seventeen children. - online post biography of Reuben Phillips
Subsequent entries indicated that Rev Phillips first visited Habersham Co GA ca 1825 and then migrated to that location somewhat later. I still have much exploration to do in this area. I found records for two men named William Eaton who "won" land in the Georgia land lottery. In addition, I found the following census data @ Cass Co GA (formed from Habersham Co 1832)
Cass Co GA 1840 Dist 822
    Sary Eaton 0001000, 00010001; @ Dist 952 Wm Eaton 1001000; 1001000
    @ Division 12 Cass Co GA 1850
    p 21 HH 152, 152
Sarah Eaton 68 (1782) Delaware; Lodicia 37 Georgia; Lucy 6 Georgia; neighbor A McFadin
This is proof of nothing so far, but it is at least a good lead. Note here that the dates for Sarah Eaton are quite consistent ...

      • Note:
Margaret "In addition to this, we have information from the diary of Rev Reuben Phillips, the brother of Elizabeth Phillips Wells (wife of Henry the son of Thomas) that he (Rev Phillips) bought land from William Eaton at Hominy Creek in 1816.
I spent the most of my Saturdays at Esquire James Gudgers, writing in the Register's office, recording deeds for which he gave me one dollar per day.
That year [1816] That year I purchased a farm from William Eaton in Haywood County on the head of Hominy creek. I let my brother Elisha live on it as he had just married and had no farm, we united our interest as one; he farmed while I taught school and our interest was as one until the year I married and he still lives on the place and raised some seventeen children.
(We know also from his diary that there was a brother Hiram Phillips.) Eaton family genealogy lists William Eaton as one of the sons of Isaac Eaton and Sarah Hall. The family lived briefly at Haywood Co. Most of them appear to have migrated to Rutherford Co TN by about 1816; William, however, is never mentioned in the family records in Tennessee. I suspect, but cannot prove, that Sarah Wells Eaton is the woman born 1782 Delaware found living at Cass Co GA in 1850. Rev Reuben Phillips and at least one of his brothers also migrated to Georgia.
