It was a common belief in the community that a survey was made at one time and that Center City was declared the center of the State of Texas with the historical old live oak tree representing the living marker. The first post office opened June 4, 1877. Later it was combined with a grocery store. (The store was once known as "Hughes Store". Calvin Head bought the store from Tom Beck. Head sold it to R. G. Hendry.) The post office was discontinued on August 31, 1920 with Calvin Head as the last postmaster. The old live oak stands in front of the old post office building. 10
