Note: At the time of the 1860 US Census, he was a farmer in Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri. At the time of the 1870 US Census, he was working in dry goods and groceries in Hamilton, Caldwell County, Missouri. At the time of the 1880 US Census, he was working as a miner and lived in Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri. He gave both parent's birthplace as Maryland.
In the 1900 US Census he gave his father's birthplace as Virginia and his mother's as Maryland. He was living with son John E Brosius at that time and farming with him near the community of Austin, Garfield County, Colorado. (His father Jacob gave his own birthplace as Maryland in the 1850 US Census.)
Obituary published in the Rifle Reveille, Rifle, Colorado: Geo. E. Brosius was born in Ohio Jan. 20, 1831. He moved to Missouri in an early day, where he was married at Gallatin to a Miss Casey. Five sons and three daughters were the issue of this union. Three sons and one daughter still survive him. A short time before his death he went to visit his son living at Montrose and while there was taken with the illness which proved to be fatal.
Up to within a few hours of his death his condition was not considered serious. J. E., the son living at this place, was called by a telegram to Montrose Friday night, his father dying the next day. The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. W. Harned in the M.E. church at this place on Tuesday at 2 P.M. and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a number of sorrowing and sympathizing friends.
