Alexander Reid was born about 1698 in Scotland or Ireland and died about 1777 in Rowan County, North Carolina, in the area of the Fourth Creek congregation on the Yadkin River. He married Margaret McKay in Ireland about 1725. She died in Rowan County. Alex came to America about 1745 with some of his brothers, settling first along Swatawro Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. By 1753 he moved his family down the Carolina wagon road to North Carolina. One of these brother's may have been George (b.1719), ancestor of the Abbeville, South Carolina line of Reids. Alexander immigrated from Ireland in about 1745 with his wife, children and brother. Their port of entry was Philadelphia. He was a Scotch Presbyterian. Alexander lived 4 years in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Then he moved to Rockingham County, Virginia. On January 11, 1775, he was old and infirmed and in Rowan County, North Carolina. At his death, his son, Alexander, received his plantation and the seven other children each received 1/7 of the remaining property. There is a copy of Alexander's will. Source: Virginia. If you study my sources, you will see that I haven't done much research before the 1850 census. I have some material based on Bible entries, DAR applications, local history books, and wills for earlier periods but need to do a lot more work on the lines further out. Please contact me with updates and corrections.
