Note: A letter from James to his sister Sarah Ann: Walker Co Ala. April 11th 1853
Dear Sister I recd the letter you sent by Miss Gill which gave me great satisfaction to hear that you were all well. We are well and doing well; we have become somewhat naturalized to Walker, and the people, so that we are better satisfied than we expected to be. There is preaching in the country in reach of us every Sunday. We were at the quarterly meting across the river on Saturday and Sunday only five miles from our place of residence.
They had a tolerable lively meeting, and we enjoyed ourselves finely with the GIRLS. These hills are alive with them. I can in one hour find any sort that I would wish to behold.
If you have any more dishwater news send it on. I have five dollars to pay for the transportation. Finally, give Bens a kiss for me and tell him that I will come to see him the first of June riding an old blind white horse with a straw hat on my head and a pair of Brogans on my feet and bare leged with hickry bark suspenders and wooden pegs for buttons.
I have the honour to remain respectfully yours. J. B. Head
(M.B.) I wrote in a letter dated the 18th March which I suppose you did not get directing a bedstid to be made immediately and be deposited at Gills. If it is not made already have it made as soon as possible and deposit as before directed.
