Note: Johann Jr came to America in 1849 from the town of Havelberg, Prignitz, Brandenburg, Prussia with his father, mother, and sister. They traveled steerage on the ship, Bark Hamburg, from Hamburg, Germany, leaving 3 Oct 1849, to Galveston, Texas, arriving 15 Dec 1849.
At the time of the 1850 census, Johann Jr (shown as Carl) was living with his parents in Austin County, Texas, and farming. He used Johann Charles Garlipp on the marriage license in 1852.
Naturalization: Austin County, Texas. 7 Nov 1855 (Transcription of records available at http://www.txgenweb2.org/txaustin/Nat/G.html shows the date as 7 Nov 1853 and that of the father as 7 Nov 1855. This was a typographical error. The dates for both on the handwritten original records are 7 Nov 1855. Also both of them were starting to use the name Charles instead of Carl.)
