  • Note:

    Received as an inheritance from his father's estate 150 acres of land located about six miles northwest of Calhoun. Raised good graded stock, having some fine grades of Cotswold and Southdown sheep.
  • Military:
    During the war he enlisted in the first company raised in the county, Captain Owen commanding, and was in several hard fought battles. After six months the company was disbanded, and he then re-enlisted in the Confederate service under General Jo e Shelby, his first battle then being at Newtonia, Missouri. He was twice made prisoner and paroled, finally surrendered at the close of the war at Memphis.

    He enlisted in the Confederate army near the beginning of the Civil War, and served through the entire war, being wounded two or three times. He was captured and paroled by being sent west to fight the Indians.
