Moved to Golden CO in late nineteenth century.

Founder of the Garrison Tribune april 1891-1896 with F C Hitchcok of the Mosca Herald.
Learned the printing trade form his father and published "The Jefferson County Republican". a Weekly newspaper after 1913.
Sold it in the mid thirties and retired to Denver, living with his three daughters and son in law.

Arvada Sun 1905-November 14, 1919. Bishop was publisher to 1907.

Harry Baller was connected with the paper from 1906-1907, followed by A.W. Armstrong 1909-1912. Baller, and his wife, Teresa, returned as publishers 1912-1913. C.M. Danford bought the Sun in 1913.

Danford, who came to Colorado from Ohio in 1891, founded the Mancos Times-Tribune in 1893, and worked on the San Luis Valley Times, the Plateau Valley Herald, De Beque Era, Grand Junction Star-Times, and Grand Junction Sentinel. In 1919 he bought the Golden Globe.

Juggling two papers evidently didn't suit Danford. In February 1919 he sold the Sun to his son, Frank D. Danford, and planned to devote himself to the Golden Globe. In October 1919, John F. Vivian, a Republican Party leader in the county, and others bought the Sun at an auction and moved it to Golden, where it was combined with the Globe and became the Jefferson County Republican. (See Golden.)
Vivian's son, John C. Vivian, was also a newspaperman, and a Colorado Governor.

C.M. Danford, owner of the Arvada Sun, bought the Golden Globe in April 1918. Colorado Press said:

Danford's intention [is] to make the Globe and Sun the best papers in that part of the state at least, and to make both real live country newspapers.
The patrons of both papers will have better service and more county news than ever before...as soon as the new manager gets himself adjusted to the new responsibilities further improvements will be made to both papers.

The Sun and Globe were consolidated in the fall of 1919 under the name: Jefferson County Republican
C.M. Danford was in charge of the mechanical department.

Alfred Isham, part-owner of the Globe, also held a mortgage on the Arvada Sun. When the two papers merged in 1919, he sued Danford and others for allegedly removing and selling mortgaged property. There were also charges of alleged theft of the subscription list. Colorado Press did not report the outcome of the suit.

Danford retired as associate editor and manager of the Republican in November 1927. Said the Republican:

He has been connected with the publication in nearly every capacity, from job printer and linotype operator to editor and manager, casting his all with the venture when prospects were anything but rosy, and much of the success of the undertaking has been due to his efforts. He appeared as the head of a household on the 1900 census on 22 June 1900 and listed his occupation as day laborer in Owaneco, Christian Co., IL. He again appeared as the head of a household on the 1910 census in April 1910 in Owaneco, Christian Co., IL. By this time he listed his occupation as a country merchant in Owaneco.
According to the 1910 census, Charles and Addie had three children, all of whom were living in 1910.

Garrison Tribune April 1891-1896 (C.M.) Danford & Hitchcock founders. Hitchcock is probably the F.C. Hitchcock of the Mosca Herald. Danford, who was connected with many papers in southwestern Colorado is better known for his newspapers in Jefferson county after 1913.

    Newspapers

Camp News 1892-1894, C.M. Danford, founder.

Charles W. Danford came to Colorado in 1891 from his native Ohio. The Camp News may have been his first paper in the state, although his obituary says he was with the San Luis Valley Times, Plateau Valley Herald, Debeque Era, Grand Junction Star-Times, and Grand Junction Sentinel before buying the Arvada Sun in 1911. He died in Denver May 16, 1946.
