"Pop" Powell loved to hike and fish in the Colorado mountains, When Joe Bob's two boys (Bob and Bill) were small Pop Powell would go with them on the city bus from the Powell House (917 East Costilla in Colorado Springs) to the entrance of Cheyenne Canyon near the Broadmoor Hotel. The three ( Pop, Bob, Bill) would then walk up Cheyenne Canyon for the day enjoying the mountains. Sometimes Pop would bring peanut butter jelly sandwiches or a can of soup for lunch. We enjoyed those mountain hikes with Pop Powell. At the end of the day we would walk down the canyon and catch the city bus back home -- Tired, but happy!
