    In 1429 he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

    On succeeding to his father's estates in 1439, he was granted by Henry VI the office of Seneschal of Macclesfield and Chief Ranger of the Forest.

    On January 20, 1456, Sir Thomas was created Baron Stanley by special writ and was made a Knight of the Garter, and Chamberlain to Henry VI. Ambassador to Scotland.
