Note: THE ANCESTRY OF MCDONALD FULLENKAMP
Welcome to the "The Ancestry of McDonald Fullenkamp," by Larry Overmire and Nancy McDonald, RootsWeb World Connect Project, 2003-2009.
This is a humanitarian project, not a commercial one. No one is making money here. The information contained within is provided to help people in their research, though it should in no way be construed as definitive.
OUR PHILOSOPHY We believe it is very important for everyone to learn their family history and understand how they fit into the big picture of which we are all a part. Knowing yourself includes knowing where you come from and how you got here. We highly recommend everyone do their own genealogy research. It is an incredibly fascinating and rewarding undertaking. What you learn in the quest for your own family history will impact your life, the lives of your children, your grandchildren, and the potentially millions of descendants who will follow. Everyone has a life story worth remembering and preserving for future generations. If you dont take the time to preserve the stories, they will be lost forever, and that is indeed a tragedy.
USING THIS DATABASE The research for this database is ongoing. It is meant to be a useful tool to help others in their research, but nothing is set in stone here. There are undoubtedly errors. If you find any, please let us know, so that we can make the necessary corrections. We do strive for accuracy. Only by sharing information and sources can we accurately plot the generations and be confident of our findings.
On each individuals page, we have listed the sources for our information. As you will see, some individuals are much more thoroughly researched than others. In cases where sources are few or of questionable reliability, the data cannot be considered authoritative in any way. A general rule is, whenever in doubt, do more research!
It is also important to understand that there really is no such thing as proof when it comes to our ancestry. All sources are subject to error and may be shown inaccurate as new evidence becomes available over time. Therefore, the findings of any genealogist are subject to error as well.
Please note that we do not use "mass imports" from other people's databases, a practice which proliferates the spread of misinformation. Each entry you see has been individually added and researched as indicated.
REGARDING FAMOUS RELATIONS The truth is that ALL of us are descended from famous historical figures and ALL of us can count numerous famous people among our relatives. There is nothing special or unique about it. We ALL have impressive pedigrees. Most of us, however, have no way of knowing how these people actually are connected, because the information has not been properly handed down from generation to generation. Hopefully, this database will help many of you retrieve the evidence or inspire you to do further research. In this database, many of the lines of famous people have been traced given the information that is already readily available on the Internet. Always check the sources when you are reviewing these lines. There are certainly instances where the information may be false due to inadequate research or fraud on the part of individuals who are deliberately spreading misinformation. Please let me know if you find any lines that prove false (always supply documentation to support your claims).
NAVIGATING THIS DATABASE Use the index, pedigree, and descendancy links to easily navigate. Click on a persons name and you will go to his/her individual page.
CODES IN THIS DATABASE Famous or notable relations are in CAPITAL LETTERS. Persons with an asterisk (*) are direct ancestors of Nancy McDonald. Three exclamation points (!!!) indicates a problem entry. The lineage from child to parent or vice versa may be in serious doubt or otherwise in need of further documentation or research. WARNINGS. These contain conflicting pieces of information that have been found in other sources. Caution is advised.
COPYRIGHT LAW AND PLAGIARISM Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people out there who are deliberately taking the work of others, copying and pasting it into their own websites, and presenting it as their own work without giving proper credit. Others mistakenly believe that they have the right to copy and paste at will from Rootsweb, Ancestry.com, or other Internet sources, believing it is somehow in the public domain. Not so. This is PLAGIARISM and is against the law.
It is true that anyone can use names, dates, and placesthose are in the public domain, as are historical facts, but the expression of those facts is protected by copyright law. The Ancestry of McDonald Fullenkamp is different from most Rootsweb or Ancestry.com databases in that it includes a wealth of material that has been authored by the researcher Larry Overmire. The material not written by Mr. Overmire has been put in quotes with the author cited and the source indicated at the bottom of the page. So, if there are no quotes around the material, Mr. Overmire wrote it. This original, authored material is copyrighted. If you would like to use it, you must first obtain permission from the author (see below). If you have any confusion about copyright law, there are plenty of websites out there to help you understand it.
HOW TO CREDIT SOURCES For effective genealogical work, anyone should be able to go to the source and evaluate the material for themselves. It must be clear to anyone who visits your website and looks at your genealogy, who wrote what. Sites that dont show sources have little credibility for genealogical purposesits best to avoid them. Often they contain undocumented and false information. Therefore, whenever possible, each source should include the title of the work, the author, the publisher, and the place and date of publication. Page numbers and repositories are helpful as well. If the source is a website, there should be a link provided.
Regardless of the law, human decency and common courtesy demands that you credit your sources. People spend years and years in researching the material. The least you can do is to give them credit for their hard work when you take information from their databases or websites.
HOW TO CREDIT THIS RESEARCH When you use information from this database, it should be listed in your sources as such: The Ancestry of McDonald Fullenkamp, by Larry Overmire and Nancy McDonald, RootsWeb World Connect Project, 2003-2009.
Here is an example of how authored material can be properly quoted: John may have immigrated in the 'Plain Jane.' In England in 1629, he was prosecuted for refusing to kneel at communion. In 1654, he was fined 5 shillings for neglecting to worship on the Sabbath. In 1661, his home was searched on suspicion that he was harboring Quakers." Larry Overmire, Ancestry of McDonald Fullenkamp

Please specify what you would like to use, how you would like to use it (personal use, website, book, etc), and in which database you found the material (Mr. Overmire does an extensive amount of research and has several different databases out there).
Mr. Overmires authored material may NOT be used for commercial purposes.

COURTESY PLEASE Surprisingly, even though this information is being made available to people, free of charge, in order to help them in their research, we have received a number of rude and abusive emails. This is completely uncalled for. Civility and professionalism are expected at all times. If you can't be courteous and respectful, you will not receive a response.
