    Note:
He was my father's mother's mother's father. Andrew (Anderson ]Boyd
McCoy was born abt. 1837 in Logan Co., WV, (one of 13 siblings) and
fathered at least 9 children with Elizabeth "Betsy Ann" Rutherford,
born abt. 1836 in KY and died abt. 1928 because my father told me
there was a picture of him with her and he was only about 6 yrs. old
in it. Anderw is my family's , and many others, link to the biggest
news story that the WV and KY borders has seen in 150 years. Of course
I'm talking about the Hatfield & McCoy Fued.
Andew's parents were Asa McCoy, born abt. 1810 in Pike Co., KY (one of
17 siblings) and Eleanor Burress, born 1832 in Pike Co. KY
Asa's parents were Samuel McCoy, born abt. 1782 in MD, (one of 13
    siblings) and Elizabeth Davis (1782-1840)
Here is the connection... one of Samuel's brother's was Daniel McCoy,
born abt. 1790 in VA and died abt. 1885 in VA He married Margaret
"Peggy" Taylor, born 11-12-1800 in VA They had 14 children.
one son was Randolph "Ole Ran'L" McCoy, lived: 10-30-1825 in KY to
3-24-1914 in KY He married his first cousin, on of Samuel's daughters,
Sarah "Sally" McCoy, (1829-1870) They had 17 children, 6 of these were
    victims of the Fued.
the three brothers,Randolph "Bud" born 1864, Tolbert born 6-16-1854
and Pharmer born 1863 were all murdered by the Hatfields on Aug., 9th,
1882 daughter Alifair born 6-10-1858 and brother Calvin born 1862 were
killed by Hatfields on Jan., 1st, 1888 defending their home. and Ole
Ran'l's daughter Rose Anna McCoy (1869-1888) had a daughter by Johnse
Hatfield named Sarah Elizabeth born 1881, which died after 8 months
There is another indirect connection I have found by checking the
pedigree of the wife of Floyd McCoy born abt. 1853, another son of Ole
Ran'l's. Floyd married Mary "Polly" Rutherford born abt 1858 Her
father was Elliot Jim Rutherford born 1821 and His father was James
    Rutherford born abt. 1792
James' brother was Joseph Rutherford (1795-1870) who married Permillia
"millie" Oma Keesee, born 1810 and one of their daughters was
Elizabeth "betsy ann" Rutherford who of course married Andew Boyd
McCoy and the circle is complete...
There are probably many "crossed" pedigrees between most of the
surnames in the KY and WV area from the 1600's when most came from
eastern Europe to the 1900's when electronic technology and progress
made some of them leave the hills for a better life, like Lydia McCoy
    did.
