He was born Aug. 25, 1903, in Fairfield Township, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah Barkley Ritenour. He was former Derry Borough chief of police, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a Methodist by faith and a lifelong member of the Derry American Legion Post 324. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Chief of Police Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Wetmore Ritenour; a daughter, Evelyn Ruth; a brother, Earl; and two sisters, Elizabeth McDowell and Sarah Ritenour. Surviving are his wife, Louise Fleming Ritenour; two daughters, Mrs. Elvin (Sarah) McGraw of Boardman, Ohio, and Mrs. David (Anna) Reid of Derry RD; six sons, Joseph C. of New Florence, Richard Glenn of New Derry, Earl Willard of Nevada, George E. of Derry, James A. of Latrobe and Donald C. Ritenour of Derry; five stepchildren; 33 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Owen Ritenour, his grandson, officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Fairfield Township. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the name of Sean Ream in care of Westin William Penn Hotel, Suite 417, Box 124, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219.
