Ansell Hoffman, 92, formerly of Gary, Ind., and Scottdale RD1, passed away Sunday afternoon May 2, 1999, at the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant. Bessie was born March 14, 1907, in Middlecreek Township, Somerset County, a daughter of the late Elmer Ellsworth and Jane Elizabeth Cramer Ansell. She married Gust Julius Hoffman on Oct. 19, 1932. Bessie was a retired licensed practical nurse having worked at the St. Mary Medical Center in Gary, Ind., with more than 30 years service. She had also been affiliated with the Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church, Scottdale. Bessie is survived by her four grandsons, Ronald Hoffman Jr. and wife, Della, of Atlanta, Ga., Daniel Hoffman and wife, Cynthia, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Bruce Hoffman and wife, Lucy, of Barri, Ontario, Canada, and Larry Hoffman and wife, Diane, of Douglasville, Ga.; nine great_grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Betty Eicher and husband, Robert, of Greensburg and Mary Lou Flores and husband, Rudy, of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Martin Ansell and wife, Hilda, of Scottdale RD1; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Gust Julius Hoffman; a son, Ronald E. Hoffman Sr., on Jan. 5, 1999; eight stepchildren, Richard, Gus, Glenn, Clyde, Jay, Don, Garnet and Mildred; six sisters, Gladys Garrity, Etta Ulery, Ruth Ansell, Betty Ansell, Iva Barkley and Anna Peterson; and five brothers, Stanley, Thomas, Wilbert, Roy and Jesse Ansell. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724_887_5300) Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David A. Lee officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery.
