    "John Henry-Farmer + stock grower born in Somerset Co. penn. July 25, 1827. Son of John & Elizabeth ( Imell) Henry. Natives of Penn. & Maryland repectively. His father was a farmer, blacksmith, and also a hotel keeper in Somerset Co. for many years. My Grandpa was the 9th in a family of 10. He was reared on the farm, in turkey foot Twp. Owned 165 A of land. Married Hannah ( Garey)Miller , daughter of Peter Garey and widow of Mike Miller Feb. 11, 1847. He was 20 & she 25. Pretty young to take on a widow and 2 boys . They were members of the baptist Church. Enlised in 1862 age 35. took Abe & Anthony with him. they had big 6 ft. long heavy guns. "

    "His Grandfather, ( my Great, Great, was in the rev.war. And his Uncle Peter Henry was in the war of 1812 under General Harrison. ."

    " When the war was over the men were paid in land grants instead of money. Thats when my Grandpa crossed the Allegheny Mts. into Western Penna and took up land.
    From another Portion of her will
    "Grandpa Henry & his step sons Abe and Anthony Miller and Grandma's brother Simon Garey all volunteered in the Civil War. Enlisted in 1862. Grandpa was wounded at Spotto Sylvania Court House May 12, 64. Discharged by General Order June8, 65. He has his right thumb shot off. Uncle Simon had a bullet in his arm. Couldn't bend it or straighten it out. He carried it as if it was in a sling. Grandpa got $ 30 a month for the rest of his life, then Grandma got it the rest of her life. She was 80 when he died and lived to be 90. She was born on Christmas Day.
