NOTE: 1880 WV Soundex lists a James Gary, 37, b. PA in Wheeling (26th St. #86 [26th St. runs into some nail factory, Wheeling Steel & Iron]) with the following: Nancy, wife, 28, b.VA; Thomas, 18, son, b.WV; Ulysses Grant, 16, son, b.WV; Jonathan, 11, son, b.WV; Elijah, 9, son, b.WV; and Reggie, 11/12, b. WV (Vol 9, ED 207, Sheet 16, Line 37). The children, with the exception of Reggie, are too old to be Nancy's. PROBABILITY: These are James Alexander's. His wife had died two years before. Or, this James is JAG's nephew, son of George Washington Gary (Jonathan's oldest son), who was providing a home for JAG's male children. The names match and the ages nearly so. Marshall CO WV marriage records (Vol B p 362) show a James Gary 45 (25?) of Ohio CO WV married a Nancy Pearcy 30 of Marshall CO WV 7 Sep 1879. (OTHER POSSIBILITY: Was JAG who married Nancy Pearcy; he kept his sons and farmed out his daughters. WV 1880 Mortality Sked (AIS) has no infant Reggie Gary, but it does have a Mary Gary, 28, housewife, d. in Oct in Ohio Co of consumption. Could this Mary be Nancy?)
