Note: Jefferson Henning was born 27 September 1842 in Stark County, Ohio. He was the son of Adam and Elizabeth (Stahl) Henning. Marriage1 - Keziah Smith 23 August 1866 Wayne County, Ohio. Marriage2 - Estelle Klingel Date unknown Stark County, Ohio. He enlisted in Company F, 102nd Ohio Infantry on 4 August 1862 at age 20. The 102nd OVI served most of the war as guards along the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad, which was the principal supply route for the armies maneuvering on Atlanta. He was captured 24 September 1864 at Athens, Alabama and sent to prison at Cahaba, Alabama and later on to Florence, Alabama. Other members of the 102nd OVI captured with him, which remained at Cahaba were sent home on the Sultana, which exploded and sank with the loss of over 1500 men.
