Returned for a time and brought his mother and sister to the U.S. Married in 1867 to Mary McNally. His mother died at age 104. Survived by his widow, one son Jos. Fay of Lake Prairie; five daughters: Mrs. Thos Shea, Le Sueur: Miss Margaret Fay, Billings, Mont.; Mrs. C. W. Osborne and the Misses Alice and Annie Fay, Lake Prairie; and a sister Miss Margaret Fay of St. Peter. Preceded in death by his brothers including Charles, and his mother.
