Letter from Bessie to Rosalie Furman, Dec. 14, 1943: --------begin letter------------------------ Dear Rosalie:--
It was good to get word from you again in receiving your last letter of several weeks ago.. You seem a very busy person and I appreciate you writing me... In your letter you mentioned Harvey Meadows' dismissal from the Army and you wondered where he could be... Well, to-day his Christmas greetings card was received by us and it carried the same return address as in '42... If you haven't it, it is-- Cpl. Harvey Meadows, Sec. Sect., 1228th S.C.S.U., Ft. Tilden, N.Y.
I have written him today suggesting a holiday furlough in Washington & we hope he may be able to come... Wish you were going to be here too, but of course I'm not forgetting how much Xmas means in your own home with two grandbabies...near you...
I haven't seen Green Chandler Furman again, it's probably our fault & we will try to have a Yule-tide meeting... We have been so frightfully busy-- and on top of that have entertained the unpopular flu germ that has been in epidemic the last month... I am recovered but have not yet been out... Glenn has been up & about as usual for 2 weeks & seems all right again...
Janet is home... It is so good to have her and she seems happy to be here... Glenn and I are not very happy about her marriage and I have yet to be convinced that Janet is altogether so herself...
She is well since her 5 months in Texas at his camp... San Marco... He washed out as an air cadet just 2 weeks before graduation... Too bad... He now is at Cmp Truax in Wis. at a radar air corps school...
Nancy's husband is a 4F!! An honest to goodness one and I do not feel that she was wise in marrying but they are very happy and her husband is very considerate and very kind to her... Their baby is developing beautifully & in splendid physical condition.
If you are with Maurice & Mary during the holidays,-- think of us... We certainly will be thinking of all our relatives, near & far.--
May Christmas be a happy season for you and Mr. Collins & all your dear ones...
We all send our love and best wishes,
Affectionately, Bessie
3620 Conn. Ave. NW Washington 8, D.C...
