    Josias born about 1630 and died subsequent to 1703. The following item relative to him appears in the town record:
    “January ye 7 1700 at a publick Towne meeting, voted that Josias Furman, senior, shall warn ye inhabitants to appeare at all Towne meetings; and that he shall have for so doing ye sum of seven shillings for each times warning, to be paid him in a Towne rate.”

    Variously listed as born in Newtown, NY or Nayland, Suffolk Co., England.

    Married and had 6 sons and possibly daughters.
    Presumed son of John Firmin of Watertown, MA.

    [RWCollins]: Josias Furman was born about 1630 and died subsequent to 1703. he was married and had six sons (also possibly four daughters, but they are not mentioned in the genealogy).     Josias was the cabin boy aboard the Elizabeth, Winthrop Fleet. With his brother John, Josias left Massachusetts in 1652 and settled in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. Josias did not accompany his brother John who moved Middleburgh (which later changed its name to Newtown) in 1656. Josias subsequently moved to Middleburgh in 1664.
