[RWCollins]: died soon after birth of fourth child in 1847. Then married Lucy's sister Henrietta. The Williams girls were orphans and were brought up by their aunt Miss Mary E. Barnard, daughter of Major John Barnard who came from Northumberland, England, with General (later Governor) Oglethorpe, who was his friend, and owned Wilmington Island, Chatham Co., GA. The Williams girls' mother was Lucy Barnard, nothing is known of their father. Lucy Barnard was a descendant or collateral of the Sir John Barnard who married Elizabeth Hall (subseq. to 1647), the daughter of Susannah Shakespeare. Major Barnard had an older brother Timothy who married the daughter of an Indian chief in Cherokee, GA; and afterwards became himself chief of the tribe. His children not being legitimate, and he dying before his father, they did not inherit his father's immense property (which must have been entailed.) Major John Barnard met and married Lucy Turner and had 12 children, one of whom--Lucy--married Williams, and another--Mary E.--brought up the two Williams Girls (and gave this information to Samuel Kirkwhite Furman.)

Almost certainly descended from John Barnard, Sr., b: 1712, England, d: 29 Jan 1757, Georgia; title: Captain. Via son John Barnard, Jr., b: 12 Nov 1750, Wilmington Island, GA, d: 6 Oct 1819, Wilmington Island, GA, major in continental army. John Jr. married Lucy Turner. Their children include daughter Henrietta Barnard who married a Williams, and a son James Barnard who also married a Williams. Name coincidences of Lucy, Barnard and Williams very suggestive, but exact lineage uncertain. Best bet is that Henrietta Barnard Williams is her mother.

Note that another wife of Samuel Furman was a Henrietta Williams, possibly another daughter of Henrietta Barnard Williams.
