[Rosalie Woodson Collins]: Was in the Confederate Army, in the battle of Wilderness in VA, and afterwards in the cavalry in LA under General Mosston. In June 1867 he married Jessie Paralee Collins, daughter of Dr. J.D. Collins, in Henderson, KY. He studied medicine at the Louisville Medical College, KY, graduating in 1871, and practised medicine in Henderson Co., KY, where their children were born. They had four children: in order Lucy Salome, Jessie Farrar (died about age 2), Rosalie Allan, and Edwin Barnard (died at 6 months). Jessie died in Dec 1876 shortly after her last child was borm. In October 1881 he married Nannie Greer of Covington, KY, who died after 4 months. His health failing, he spent several years in the West, and died in Silver City, NM, in 1884. (It is obvious that Lucy and Rosalie Furman were raised by family other than their parents.)

According to Lucy Furman (as stated in her autobiographical sketch at http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~garyscottcollins/), she and her sister Rosalie were raised after the death of their parents by their aunt, Rosalie Collins, possibly in part in Covington, KY in the house of their grandfather, J.D. Collins. They appear to have been in close contact with their aunt Leila Collins (Gunn) and the 1880 census entry under John Donald Gunn shows that both Lucy and Rosalie were visiting in Kansas at the time of the census.

Medical doctor, graduated from the Louisville College of Medicine in 1871. In Confederate Army. Four children: Lucy, Rosalie, and two who died at ages 2 yr and 6 mo. Listed as William J. Furman on death certificate of daughter Rosalie.

Ancestry of Williams Barnard Furman from research by Rosalie Woodson Collins and from "Genealogical Dictionary of Furman", by Howard R. Furman, Route 1, Box 72, Plummer, Idaho 83851 (hfurman@smgazette.com).

Third child of Samuel Kirkwhite Furman.

No knowledge of circumstances of death in Silver City, NM, which was a silver mining town whose boom started in 1870 and ended in 1893 (see http://www.wnmu.edu/univ/areahistatrac.htm).
