[Recollections of Arthur by his son "Bink" (Douglas L. Collins) (written May 1984)]
He was born 2 Sept. 1891 (possibly in Haddonfield). Arthur's father Tom had apparently left him enough money to more or less get through college at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. He graduated in 1912 as a mechanical engineer. He then became interested in metallurgy; later teaching some courses in the subject at Temple University in Philadelphia. He also, with a partner, attempted to start a company for the purpose of manufacturing ball bearings in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, they only collected half of what they needed to begin operation, and the partners refunded what money they had collected to the original investors. Arthur started working for a steel warehouse in Philadelphia, Horace T. Potts, which is still a going concern. He spent much of his life in sales; he ended up as Sales Manager, but also combined sales with technical consulting advice in metallurgy, and had many interesting tales.
He was also associated with Frank and Mary Mitchell in Germantown, Pa. with whom he lived in the early days after his parents death (Tom died when Arthur was only 14).
