According to son D.C. Newman Collins in "Two Brothers", Daniel and Elizabeth settled in New Orleans, engaging in the paint business under the name of Collins and Simon. He died of black smallpox when son Tom was only 1 year old and D.C. Newman was unborn. With help of a Reverend J.P. Newman, Elizabeth was able to get Tom and her husband's body back to Haddonfield, NJ where he is buried. After that, Elizabeth and the children lived with her parents Charles and Sarah Lippincott in Haddonfield.
According to an application for Life Insurance written by son D.C. Newman Collins in 1905, Daniel died of black small-pox after being sick about two weeks; he previous had been in good health.
Buried in Methodist Episcopal Cemetery, Haddonfield, NJ (Gravestone listed in "Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey", vol. 5., according to Rosalie Woodson Collins.)
Francis Chamberlain's notes say died 30 Jan 1865.
From handwritten notes in bible of father John Collins: "Daniel Collins Son of Elizabeth and John Collins departed this life January 30, 1865."

(2) Presence of Daniel Collins farming in Camden County in 1860 might explain his meeting and later marrying Elizabeth Lippincott of Haddonfield, NJ, a suburb of Camden.]
