Miss Rosalie Allan Furman has taught Mathematics and Science most creditably and satisfacorily in my School for the last eight yeaars, and only the fact that I am reorganizing my School and changing its deparemtns, leads me to part with her services.
She is a most conscientious, through and energetic teacher; her control over her classes in perfect, and her personality a most attractive one. Any school which secures her services will be most fortunate, and I hope that she may obtain a position which is equal to her undoubted ability.

Separate Certificate of Assignment shows that Rosalie A. Furman was Assistant Teacher at Curtis High School, Richmond Co. (Staten Island), City of New York, starting Sep 1912. This was listed in the certificate as her first year of service, with 5 years of service at other schools acknowledged.

Certificate of Membership in the Teacher's Retirement Fund of New Jersey, dated 7 Sep 1909, shows that Rosalie A. Furman was a teacher in the Borough of ???, County of Essex. 2.5% of her salary was to be withheld as her contribution to the fund.

From death certificate (Union Co., Cranford Twp.): b: 16 Oct 1874, Henderson, KY; occupation, housewife; parents William J. Furman and Jessie C. Collins; cremated. (Informant J.D. Collins, her son, had names of both parents wrong.) Death occured in house of son J.D. Collins, 26 Holly St., Cranford, NJ. Died Saturday on 15 Oct 1955. Native of Henderson, KY.

Several sources give middle name spelling as Allan, assumed to be correct, as opposed to Allen.

1880 US Census, listed as being both in households of father Williams Furman and of uncle John Donald Gunn (see entries), possibly visiting with the Gunns, her aunt and uncle.

1900 US census, Absecon, NJ (see entry for sister Lucy Furman and for Ann Collins (m Fleming), boarding house keeper who was aunt of Rosalie's future husband.
