    Anderson County is located in East Tennessee, one of the states three "grand divisions", and was formed in 1801, from parts of Knox and Grainger Counties. The county seat is Clinton.
    Campbell County is located in East Tennessee on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. It was formed in 1806 from parts of Anderson and Claiborne Counties. The county seat is Jacksboro.
    Scott County is located in East Tennessee, one of the state's three "grand divisions." Scott County was formed in 1849 from parts of Fentress, Campbell, Anderson, and Morgan counties. The county seat is Huntsville.

    John was said to be a stowaway on a ship from Ireland with two cousins.

    John was one of the first settlers on New River in the old 14th CD of
    Campbell Co. John and Judy are buried across the River at Nicks Creek
    Church, in a family cemetery. Johns sons served in the Civil War.
    John C. & Judy Cole McGhee lived on the old mountain footpath trail
    to Smokey Creek from Roberts Ford(Shea), the old McGhee Cemetery and
    homeplace is across the river from Nicks Creek Church up the mountain, their
    sons were divided in the civil war, two sons Sampson McGhee & Alexander
    McGhee on the north side, and son Duncan McGhee on the south side.

    Bradford's Battalion, 13th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry

    He served in the War of 1812 as a private in John Porter's Tennessee Militia near Mobile, AL where he was stationed when peace was made. He served under Colonel Tunnel and under General Colter. He was drafted at Jacksboro, Tennessee and discharged at Knoxville, Tennessee in 1815. He received $8 per month pension for his service.
