Note: 'A Maples Leaf' page 500: Jesse Maples was born in 1786, Pittsylvania Co. VA; died 28 Apr 1866, Cleveland, Bradlye Co. Tenn. of smallpox, son of Josiah Maples, Sr. and Ruthea Sweeney. Jesse married first Jeminah 'Mimy' (surname unknown); she died on 12 may 1847, Bradlye Co. Tenn and is buried in Macedonia Cemetery about 5.5 miles southwest of Cleveland, Tenn. Jesse maples was married second on 19 Nov 1847 in Bradley Co. Tenn. by Isaac Crisman, M. G., to Mrs Mildred Haggard, a widow of Martin Haggard, at mrs. Haggard's home on the farm of Martin Langston five miles south of Cleveland, Tenn. Martin Langston, her landlord, and his iwfe were witnesses.

Jesse Maples served in War of 1812, was a private in Captain An drew Lawson's Co. of the Thrid Tennessee Militia, drafted 20 September 1814 at Knoxville River, Sevier River for term of 6 months, discharged 3 May 1815 at Mobile Alabama according to Mildred Maples bounty land record dated 11 April 1878. In 1878 Mildred Maples was living in Whitfield County, Georgia. The affidavit states that Jesse Maples died at Cleveland, Tennessee on 28 April 1866 and that "her said husband's first wife Jemimah died in Bradley Co. Tenn on the 12 day of May 1847.
In a deposition dated 3 March 1855 and signed Jese Maples his mark, Jesse Maples aged about 69 years says he was a corporal in Captain Wilson Maples and then in Captain John Porter's Regiment of Tennessee drafted men commanded by Collard (Colonel) Boothe. That he was drafted at Sevierville in Sevier County Tennessee on or about the 30th day October 1814 and was mustered into the service of the United States for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Sevierville in Sevier County Tennessee on or about the first day of June AD 1815.
Jesse Maples actual 1812 record says Corporal Jesse Maples enlisted in Captain Wilson Maples Co. 15th of November 1814 for 6 months and was discharged 18th of May 1815.
In affidavit dated 28 February 1879Physician L. B. McNabb age 41 states he attended Jesse Maples at his death probably in the month of April 1866 "I am a practicing physician, and was such in the eyar 1866, and then residing in Cleveland, Bradley County Tennessee; & at that time the small pox was prevailing in that locality, especially in the winter of 1865 & ?? and the spring thereafter; among those I attended for said disease during that time was Jesse Maples, husband of Mildred Maples. He was then an old man and died of the disease, early in 1866, as near as I can recollect."
In affidavit dated 2d day of January 1879 Bradley County TennesseeRev Wm. J. Witcher a Minsiter of the Gospel age 72 years post office Cleveland Tennessee states that he was wll aquinted with Jesse Maples and his wife Jamimah for more than 30 years, that Jamimah died in Bradley Co. Tennessee sometime between 1840 and 1850, may have been in 1846 or 1847 and he attended her burial at Macedonia burial ground about 5 1/4 milse SE of Cleveland in Bradley Co. Tenn and preached her funeral sermon. She was known by the name of Mimy Maples. He also preached the funeral of her husband Jesse Maples who died in Cleveland Tennessee soon after the War.
Jesse, at his enlistement, was described as 6 feet tall, dark hair, dark eyes, dark complexion, and he was a hatter.
Sevier County, Tennessee Land Records, Survey Book page 50; Thirty acres surveyed to Jesse Maples 26 June 1824 on Waters of Flat Creek adjoining land of James Woods, Richard Woods and John Moon. Chain carriers were William Atchley and Charles Pate.

Land Grant Number 10.55 was made to Jesse Maples on 25 Jan 1825.

1862 Tax List for Bradley Co. TN, in Bradley Co. TN Genweb archives online has Jesse Maples 61 Lot, 300 acres, 1.05 valuation, 18 mf??? This is quite confusing, but I think it means Jesse Maples owned lot 61 in the town of Cleveland. I do not know what the 300 acres means, as I do not think he owned 300 acres.
