    "Philip and William Stoops, brothers, came as Pioneers from Pennsylvania and settled in Nicholas County, Kentucky... William Stoops, the Pioneer, was married three times. By first wife [Mary Ann Brown] had five sons -- Michael, Moses, William, John and James and four daughters -- Betsy, Polly, Nancy and Judy. By second wife one son Hugh and three daughters - Margaret, Ailsie and Serelda. By third wife [Sarah Warren] two daughters -- Maria and Hester. Betsy married William Linn -- Nancy married Timothy Linn. Polly married first John Shankland and second John W. Shankland, a cousin of the former. Judy married Andy Shankland. Michael, Moses, Hugh, Ailsie, and Serelda went to Ohio and were lost to sight. William and James went to Ripley County, Indiana. William married Susan Myers and second widow Gray. James married Polly Shankland, daughter of John Shankland and sister of Benjamin Shankland, my grandfather. James was a Methodist preacher. John married, second, Rose Kephart -- went to Marion Co., Indiana. Margaret married William Myers and when he died moved with children to Illinois.     "The father of these children [John Stoops] died in 1855 at the age of sixty-three years, his birth having occurred in Pennsylvania. The paternal grandfather, William Stoops, was also a Pennsylvanian, born in 1750 and died in Kentucky about 1825, having been a soldier in the Revolution." {'Philip Stoops', <>}

    Elizabeth, 1792- aft 1850, m. William Linn (or Lynn).
    William 1794-1874 IN , m. Susan Meyers (or Myers), m Zerelda Gray, emigrated to Ripley Co., Indiana
    Michael 1794-1874 m. Eleanor Van Sickle, Susannah Gore, and Sarah Gore, emigrated to OH then IL.
    James David, 1798-1880, m. Mary 'Polly' Shankland.
    Samuel 1799- .
    Robert 1800-1867 , m1 Susanna Wilson, m2 Paulina McClung.
    Mary, 1802- , m. John Shankland, then his nephew John Wolfe Shankland.
    Nancy Agnes, 1803-1863, m. Timothy Linn.
    Judith, 1805-1882 IL, m. Andrew Gibb Shankland.
    He had 5 children by his second wife Elizabeth [last name unknown] -- some sources show Susan Myers:
    Anna, 1810-1855, m. Jonah Lindsey
    Hugh (1812-1878) m. Elizabeth Carr in Cincinnati, died in Texas Co., Missouri, preacher;
    Alicia 1813-
    Margaret 1814- m. William Myers
    Serelda 1817
    He had 2 children by his third wife Sarah Warren, m. 1818:

    Maria 1823- m. Harvey Atkins/Adkins.
