!Because of the numerous John Finleys in Augusta County, it is difficult to positively identify which records belong to this John Finley. However, it is safe to say he obtained land (215 acres on South River) from his father on 2 August 1770 (DB 16:522). He also appears on the tax lists of 1782-1787, near William and Robert Finley and is listed as a "farmer," (Augusta County Tax Lists, LDS film #0029288, item 2). He was named executor of his father's will along with brothers, William & Robert (WB 7:176). John wrote his will 2 February 1802, proved 25 October 1802 (DB 9:242). He names daughters Esther, Sally and Ann Shannon; son, James; executors are his two nephews, John Caldwell and Samuel Steele Finley.
