    1. Title: Ellen Rich
Text: Ella Faught Rich was born in 1861 at the home of here parents in the
Mark West area. She was the daughter of Willis and Nancy Faught who
came to California by wagon train in 1854 with brothers William and
Jabez Faught. The Faught family enjoyed a busy social life of large
family gatherings with an abundance of good food- each cook competing
to outdo the other. Ella married William Burr Rich and was the
mother of three sons: Clarence, Stewart and Edwin. I recall
Grandmother regally presiding over her beautifully set table which
was laden with her homemade preserves, home cured ham, fresh
vegetables from her garden and sumptuous desserts generously laced
with rich cream. Most of the ingredients were produced on the ranch
situated on what is now Chalk Hill Road, Healdsburg, and was
originally homesteaded by John P. and Sarah Rich. William and Ella
Rich's summer home at Bodega Bay did not provide Ella with rest from
culinary chores. She busied herself in the kitchen from which
visiting friends and family were greeted with mouth-watering aroma of
fresh baked bread from the oven and clam chowder simmering on the
stove. Her tamale pie was a favorite at annual Faught family
picnics. We have adapted her recipe to grocery store canned tomatoes
      and corn.

      Tamale Pie

      1 lb. hamburger
      1 onion, chopped very fine
      2 large cans cream-style corn
      1 large can tomatoes
      1 pint olives
      1 tsp. spanish powder
      1 tsp. chili powder
      2 tsp. salt
      1 slice butter
      1 c. cheddar cheese, grated

Brown hamburger; add other ingredients; simmer 15 minutes. Mix 3
well beaten eggs with 2 cups yellow corn meal and 1 cup milk. Add to
simmered meat mixture, blending well. Bake approximately 1 hour at
      350.

    3. Title: Jabez Faught Jr
Text: The people of Sonoma County are too familiar with the career of
Jabez Faught of Fulton, for the writer to call special attention to
his record other than to give salient facts, for he has spent
practically his entire life here and has gained a prominent place in
the esteem of the people, being universally respected throughout the
      community where he lives.
Mr. Faught was born on the old homestead near Fulton on the 3rd of
August, 1876, and is the son of Armstrong and Isabel (McDonald)
Faught. His father was born in Iowa in 1838 and his mother's birth
occurred in Canada in 1818. Our subject's paternal grandparents were
Jabez and Lurena (Thompson) Faught, both of whom were natives of
Pennsylvania, where they were reared and married. They came to
California in 1854, making the long, tiresome and dangerous journey
across the plains with ox teams. They came to Sonoma County and
settled near Bodega, where Mr. Faught bought a ranch, to the
cultivation of which he devoted himself for about ten years. He than
came to the vicinity of Fulton and bought one hundred and sixty
acres. He was an energetic and industrious man, was successful in
his farming operations and added to his estate by purchase and
preemption until at the time of his death he was the owner of two
thousand five hundred acres of good land.
Armstrong Faught, his father, received his education in public
schools of his home neighborhood and remained on the home farm until
his marriage, in 1874, when he brought his wife to the old ranch,
where he established his home, and there he resided the remainder of
his life, devoting his energies entirely to the operation of the
farm. His death occurred in July, 1922, at the advanced age of
eighty-four years. His wife had preceded him in death many years,
having passed away in 1884. Armstrong Faught was the eldest of a
family of eight children born to Jabez and Lurena Faught, namely:
Armstrong, deceased, Sarah Jane, deceased, Madeson, deceased, Nancy,
deceased, Mrs. Louisa Copple, Lewis Cass, deceased, Willis, deceased,
      and Mrs. Cynthia E. Mathison.
Jabez Faught received his education in the district school at Mark
West and remained at home until his marriage, when he and his wife
went into housekeeping on the home ranch near Windsor. The place
contains about two thousand five hundred acres, of which two hundred
and fifty acres are in vineyard and grain land, the remainder being
in pasture, Mr. Faught keeps one hundred head of cattle and two
hundred and fifty sheep and is meeting with splendid success in his
operation of the ranch. He is an energetic and industrious man,
keeping in close touch with every phase of the ranch work, and is
widely known as one of the most substantial and progressive farmers
in his section of the county. In addition to the home farm Mr.
Faught bought another ranch of two hundred and thirty-six acres near
the Russian River, of which one hundred acres are hay land and
fourteen acres are planted to apples, the remainder being pasture
      land.
On November 20, 1902, occurred the marriage of Mr. Faught to Miss
Violet Morrison, who was born and reared in Tehama county,
California, and they are the parents of one child, Howard A., who was
born November 14, 1910, and is now attending school. Mr. Faught is a
member of the Santa Rosa Camp No. 428, Woodman of the World, and also
belongs to the State Grange. He is recognized as a man of strong
character and alert mentality, deeply interested in everything
pertaining to the advancement of the community along material, civic
or moral lines, and for years has been recognized as one of the
progressive and representative men of his community. Because of his
success and his genuine worth as a man, he enjoys an enviable
standing in regard and esteem of his fellow citizens.
