He married Mary Brown in the State of Mississippi in 1856 and located in the State of Louisiana, working at his trade as an overseer on various plantations until the outbreak of the Civil War, then moved to the city of Shreveport and worked for the Confederacy in the capacity of a shoe maker. After the Civil War he moved to Eastern Texas near Carthage and lived for a few years. It was here that he lost his wife. His second marriage was to Mrs. Ann Williamson. In the early seventies he moved with his family to Van Zandt County, Texas, where he lived the life of a farmer until his death.
