Johannes could be one of 3 men born about the same time in Eschenmosen, Zurich, Switzerland, two of whom emigrated in 1743. One of the emigrants was single and, as is proven from the 1742 census (Haushaltungsrodel) for Eschenmosen, was the son, born in 1722, of Hans Jacob; the birth date of 1715, from Johannes' gravestone, is a poor match for this man. The other emigrant was married and the son of Jacob. There were 2 Johannes' born in 1715, one on 3 Mar the son of Hans Jacob Hildebrand and Anna Pfister (the parents given in US pedigrees); the other on 9 Apr the son of Jacob Hildebrand and Anna Schmid. One Johannes remained in Escenmosen and married Elsbeth Hilbebrand, the sister of the 9 Apr Johannes (the only Elsbeth Hildebrand in the 1730 and 1742 censuses, making this probably the 3 Mar Johannes. The Johannes for which this pedigree has been researched is the 9 Apr 1715 one, the remaining one of the 3 men. He married Anna Gissler in Eschenmosen but they had no children there and left no records in Eschenmosen after their marriage. They emigrated as a couple but Anna must have died before Johannes arrived in PA or at least before he married Barbara Glattfelder.
