"What lead me to the conclusion that Joseph Burnett, b. 1752 of FOREST (formerly: Township of Otter), Bedford Co, VA married to Mabel Melton was actually the son of Jeremiah Burnett and Mary McDaniel?
    > (based on multiple internet resources, War records, pension records, census records, and marriage records to include information from Footnote.com, Ancestry.com, and Genealogy.com)
    > 1. Records place Josepn b.1752 in the location that has been associated with Jeremiah Burnett and Mary McDaniel and their Children, basically between Forest, Bedford County Virginia, and Amherst, Amherst county Virginia.
    > 2. We know that Joseph served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary war, based on pension request records and payment voucher, as did the sons of Jeremiah Burnett, as well as Jeremiah himself. But what researchers neglected to mention is that Jeramiah appears to have had two or three other sons, James, Elisha, and Samuel Burnett, Elisha being the one who married Rebecca Melton (2nd marriage), both James' and Elisha's Revolutionary war records are filed under Bond Burnett's Revolutionary war records, according to the war records, sometimes James would be noted as Barnett and at others noted as Burnett, but the records were filed with Bond's records, both James and Bond as well as a William are noted in Amherst country records in the 1780's.
    > 3. All of the brothers appear to have joined the Continental Army in or around December 1776, based on military records and battle time frames. Some or all enlisted in Amherst County Virginia, but it is thought that Joseph may have enlisted in Bedford County Virginia, as did Jeremiah Burnett married to Mary McDaniel, or he could have enlisted in or around December 1776 in Amherst county along with Isaac, John, Jeremiah, Bond, James, and Elisha Burnett.
    > 4. John and Jeremiah Burnett were part of the 10th Va Regt; Bond, James, and Elisha were in the 6th Va Regt, keep in mind that during the war, the Regts often got combined due to lack of soldiers. As for Joseph b. 1752 it appears that he enlisted in or around December 1776, and may have been a part of the 10th Va Regt, based on the captains he may have served under, according to the pension records. As for Isaac, I do not know much about him, but this information can be gotten from Sue Terhune.
    > 5) Some of the brothers spent the winter of 1777/1778 at Valley Forge, wherein John died
    > 6) Jeremiah and John were noted AWOL in March
    > 7) Jos. (Joseph) Burnett was paid $36.00 (British money at the time) in 1783
    > 8) Enlisted by either: Cap. Gross Scuggs (aka: capt.Gross Scruggs) Geo (George) Lambeth (Lambert) or Alexr (Alexander) Cummmins; two of which were assigned to the the 10th Va Inf Regt, that being Cap. Lambert, and Cap. Cummins: )
    >
    > 9) Revolutionary War information on Jeremiah Burnett married to Mary McDaniel. In May 1774 Court Orders, Bedford Co., Virginia, Jeremiah Burnett was paid 8.6.6 for service in Capt. William Campbell's Company under Lt. Danile Trigg and Alexander Cummings. On 31 March 1781, Court Orders, Bedford Co., Virginia, Jeremiah Burnett in Lt. Triggs Company of Militia in Revolutionary War. Enlisted in Bedford Co under Capt. Wm. Campbell"
