Note: John COLSON is believed to be the immigrant ancestor who came originally from Scotland and possibly through Bermuda. The COLSON family according to researcher Maxine Jarrell was a sept, or allied family of the Clan MacDonald. John arrived in Virginia in 1653. Family legend is that John had one or more brothers that also settled in Virginia. One supposedly an Isaac COLSON. One or more brothers might have returned to Scotland. Isaac was deceased in Charles City County, VA in 1688. In 1680, this Isaac COLSON had taken in two apprentices as a carpenter. Jacob COLSON, son of John was listed in several deeds as a carpenter. A Jno COLSTON, is listed as being an early Virginia immigrant in 1653 being brought over by Captain. Francis Patt, Northampton. I do not know if this is our John COLSON. There have also been some family traditions that the immigrant COLSON came from England into Philadelphia and then moved down to North Carolina.
