Cotributed land & money to build 1st Methodist church in Mineola, Texas; there is a Bible class named for him in this church and it still meets as of 198? ... He came to Mineola, Texas in 1872 or 73, along with buis brothers John, Frank and sister Mrs. Metalla Cox & their families.... He was Mineola agent for North British & Merchantile Insurance Co of New York and his comoany was 'Cage & Son'. "His obituary in the Mineola Monitor read, "The enitre community was shocked Saturday morning when the news came that George A. Cage was dead. Mr. CAge was in town Friday evening in apparent good ehalth. He arose as usual Saturday morning, ate breakfast, & went in the garden ????? On concluding the ???? he remarked that his side pained him and that he would lie down awhile. After some time, his daughter came into the room & and seeing how still he was, spoke to him; on receiving no response, she touched him and found him cold in death. Horrified and frightened, she hurried to the phone & called a doctor & summoned Jack home from the office. We understand that the doctor pronounced it some heart affliction, possibly rheumatism of the heart. The funereal was held from the Methodist Church Monday evening at ? pm; Rev. W. E. Count?, his pastor, presided. After which, the remains were laid to rest in the Mineola Cemetery." "George A. Cage was born in Columbus, Miss, July 6, 1839 & was in his 75th year at the time of his death. He came to Texas at an early age and has been identified with the business & commercial interests of Mineola since the early history of the town. For the past several years he has been engaged in the Fire Insurance business & was ever tru & faithful in his business and loyal in the discharge of his duty. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and gave freely of his time and substance to the work of the church. He was indeed a good man, who enjoyed the good will, esteem and friendship of all who knew him. Mr. Cage leaves 5 children: Mrs. Wyly who was living with him at the time of his death, Mrs. Gillam of Tyler, Mrs. Carter of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Pinto of Panama Canal Zone, and son Jack who was associated with him in business. All the children were present at the funeral excpet Mrs. Pinto who could not get here. They have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their good father.
