John Davies & Frances S. Butts were married at Sparta, Ga, the 6th April 1826. The former was born at Savannah, Geo., in January 1807. His mother was named Ann Roe and his father Edward Lloyd Davies. He had a brother named Edward who died of consumption at Savannah about the year 1823. The War of 1812 compelled his mother who had married again to go to Augusta where she died in the year 1815. His father died 30 days before John was born. John was afterwards sent by his uncle William Davies to school in Sparta & boarded in the home of Frances' ??? father John Lucas and where he was mainly raised. In 1823 he went to Tuscaloosa ?? ??? & acted as clerk for Otis Dyer but his brother's death called him to SAvannah & he then read law 1 year in the office of Burrier? & Davies. From? this? John again returned to Sparta & married & in 1827/8 moved to Auugusta, Geo. & commenced the commission business. He continued a merchant until 1833 when he became embarrassed & moved back to Sparta. In 1834 he moved to & lived at [line cut off by copier] Columbus, Miss. where he remained until 1839 & being elected Cashier of the Union Bk branch at Macon, Miss., he moved there in 1839.
Frances S. Butts, his wife, was born 26th August 1808 at Sparta, Ga. Her father was named Samuel Butts. He was a merchant. In the war with the Creek Indians he acted as Capt. in Genl Floyd's army & was killed at the battle of Callabee. Her mother's name was Mrs. Eliza H. Lucas, who after Mr. Butts' death, married Walter B. Lucas. Frances had two brothers, Jno. and Hull Butts and a half-brother Walter B. Lucas & half-sister Eliza Lucas. Her mother died the 26th August 1843.
Births Ann Eliza Davies was born the 14th February 1827. She was a memorable child. Mary Barton Davies was born the 29th April 1829 at Sparta, Ga. An infant son was born 28th April 1832 & died same day. Maria Dyer Davies was born the 14 November 1833--being the night of the memorable "falling meteors"
Deaths Frances S. Davies departed this life on the 19th Dec 1843. Jno. Davies departed this life on the 18th Janry 1849. Mary Mason Andrews, wife of Moses? Andrews, departed this life Aug 28, 1825?, aged 27 years. Eliza Holt Lucas, wife of Walter B. Lucas, died 40 m after 3 o'ck Aug. 26, 1843 at Louisville, Miss. W. B. Lucas, Sr died at Louisville, Miss Oct 26, 1862.
