NOTES: PHILIP WILLIAMS was the orphan of Henry Williams to be bound to Augustine Price from Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in VA, Vol. 1 Augusta Co Court Records Order Book No. VI and dated 16 Aug 1758.
PHILIP was listed, in 1769, as an heir in the Will of Jacob Harman and identified as his grandson. Jacob lists his two grandchildren PHILIP and Maria Price and gives them their mother's share of his estate. Information from Virginia Redding who received it from John Mann of Ohio.
Children's names and PHILIP's year of birth from Ted Kampbell of Lakeville, MN WFT home page of Ancestors of Sarah Marie Kampbell. Ted gives Giles Co. VA History - Families by Research Committee, Giles Co. Historical Soc., 216, 30, 31, where information from for Henry's marriage and children.
Walt McFatridge, Hot Springs Village, AR sent via e-mail information on Heinrich Wilhelm and his marriage to Catharine Harmon, children and her death. Also verifies the information on Anna Elizabeth Scherb/Sharp. He gives Maria Magdalena marriage to Heinrich (Henry) Preiss (Price) who is his fourth g'grandfather. Walt descends from Maria Wilhelm and Henry Price's son Adam. Walt McFatridge also states that his information on the Maria Wilhelm line came from Janet Satterfield.
Virginia Williams Redding sent to me Church Records Selected Areas of PA 1600-1800 from WFT CD #166 that gives Marriage Records of John Casper Stoever dated 23 Jan 1741 John Heinrich Wilhelm and Catarina Haermaennin, Swatara. <3>BIRTH-PARENTS-SPOUSE-CHILDREN(2)-DEATH: Register Report prepared by Rose Marie Brothers [supplied by Richard Leibenguth, Ellington, CT, who received it 4/23/99 from Virginia Redding who received it from Manns of Ohio].
"Johann Heinrich Wilhelm, son of Hans Valentin Wilhelm and Anna Christina Fischer. Born 1 Feb 1713/4, in Finkenbach, Germany [according to the Lutheran Records of Finkenbach]. Died, circa 1748, in VA. [probably near 'Peaked Mt' now McGaheysville [Rockingham Co]). Psngr List: 16 Sep 1738 (Queen Elizabeth - Alexander Hope, Master). Immigration: 16 Sep 1738 (Landed in Penn.). In "Early Lutheran Baptisms and Marriages in Southeastern, Pa; The Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever From 1738 to 1779", it shows Heinrich marry first Catarina Harman (spelled Haermaennin) and then the birth of their two children (p 22): Maria who was born 1741, sponsor Magdalena Homann, and JOHAN PHILLIP born Jan 1743, sponsors Philipp Lorentz Houtz and wife. Catarina must have died in childbirth or shortly thereafter because then it shows Heinrich Wilhelm (p 60) on 23 Aug 1743 marrying Elizabeth Scherb. Heinrich and Elizabeth must have moved to Va. - the 'Peaked Mt.' area - and the church records there show two sons being born: Michael (1745) and George (1747). Then Heinrich must have died, because Elizabeth married Augustine Price and starts having children by him. Augustine and Elizabeth's first child is born 9 May 1750, a girl named Susanna. They have several more children. Heinrich's 3 orphan children: PHILIP, George, and Michael in 1757 were bound over to Augustine Price [Augustine married Heinrich's widow Elizabeth. Elizabeth was the mother of George and Michael.] George and Michael must stay with Augustine and their mother. In 1758 PHILIP WILLIAMS was then bound to Jacob Harman, and later in 1769 was listed as an heir of Jacob Harman in his estate, and identified as his grandson. Jacob lists his two grandchildren PHILIP and Maria Price, and gives them their mother's share of his estate.
***JOHN PHILIP (FILLIB) WILLIAMS (Deed at his death listed his wife as Elender (Elenor)). Born 28 Jan 1742/3 in PA. ('SWATARA' LUTHERAN). Died, circa 1818, in Giles Co, VA. Baptism: 19 Jul 1743 in PA. In the book "German New River Settlement" by Rev. Ulysses S.A. Heavener, it was noted that Henry Wilhelm (later Williams) settled in the lower Shenandoah Valley in 1726. It doesn't say where this information came from. We found that 'our' Henry Williams came to the New World in 1738. He was first in the Peaked Mt. area, probably, and then went on down to the New River area. The Indians were still fighting the settlers, so they had to retreat several times to safer ground. Some of the settlers got tired of having to move back and forth - and probably leaving everything they had worked for - for they stayed back near Peaked Mountain. In the New River settlement in 1753, 3 orphan children - PHILIP, George, and Michael, sons of Henry Wilhelm were bound to Augustine Price. In 1758, again it was noted that PHILIP WILLIAMS, orphan of Henry Williams was bound to Augustine Price. However, he was also listed as bound to Jacob Harman. Later, PHILIP was listed as an heir in Jacob Harman's will. Amoung the Tithables for 1771, Lower District of New River were Mical Price - 4 Jacob Shell - 2 David Harlis Philip Harlis PHILIP WILLIAMS George Williams in 1772. PHILIP WILLIAMS and George Williams settled on Sinking Creek of New River. In 1779, they had not taken the 'Oath of Allegiance' so they had to pay a bond along with other Germans because they wished to convince mankind that we are not open or secret enemies of our count[r]y. PHILIP WILLIAMS' name was signed to this in German script and spelled as 'Fillib.' Michael Price's name was also written in German script; other names listed were Jacob Shell, George Williams, Micel Price and David Harless.
