  • Occupation: Homemaker, Ins Sales, Waitress
  • Birth: 23 NOV 1916 in Sublime, Lavaca, Texas, USA 3
  • Death: 01 MAY 1997 in Houston, Harris, Texas, USA
  • Name: Annie
  • Note: [Greenhow and Greenhaw.ged] Annie was known most of her life as Lorraine. After her divorce from her (2) husband, she started going by Annie, which is a nickname given her by her son-in-law, Frankie. She started using that as her legal name. Lorraine was a talented seamstress. She did not need a pattern but she could look at an item and cut it or tear it out exactly. How she could tear material to make it shape the way she wanted it I never learned! She made her own upholstery covers, and curtains, too. She sewed clothing for herself and her children. Odis said he had never known anyone who could make such tiny fine stitches and gather such a long length of material on a needle as Lorraine. She was a talented baker and made beautifully decorated special occasion cakes. She could play guitar and had a lovely singing voice, too. She loved to sing and listen to gospel songs. She loved to have a few flowers and a small garden. She canned lots of fruits and vegetables and loved picking berries and making jam, jelly, and preserves. Lorraine & Odis were divorced 12/16/1938 in Wharton, Texas Lorraine met Harold in the City Cafe in Boling Texas where she worked as a waitress. He was an oilfield truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Brown & Root. They married 12/17/1938 in Wharton, Texas. They were divorced 1/22/1962 in Harris Co, Texas Lorraine or Annie as she started being called at this time met George at Ada's Lounge in Houston, Texas where she worked as waitress. George was a carpenter and roofer. They were married in 1962 in Wharton, Texas . Mother & George got Jeana when she was 3 months old. She was raised as their daughter but was never legally adopted. Her mother was sick & unable to care for her so her stepfather, Jimmy , who was George's brother asked them if they would raise her. Mother & George got Rhonda when she was 3-4 yrs old they thought. Later learned she was only 2 yrs old at the time just big for her age. Her mother needed a baby sitter and the lady she worked for at Ada's Lounge knew Mother did baby sitting. She called & asked Mother if she would come & pick Rhonda up so naturally Mother went and got her. Her Mother quit the job and moved away the next day & we never heard from her again. Mother tried to trace her later and heard she was living in the Sharpstown area of Houston but she never could find her because she didn't know her name. Mother & George got a delayed BC as her father & mother and she was raised as their child but she was never legally adopted. Through the welfare, Mother did obtain a copy of Rhonda's real BC several years later, but she never told Rhonda about it. After Mother's death it was found hidden under a carpet in her bedroom. The story that was told Mother was that Rhonda's birth parents had gotten a divorce and the father kept the other children but left Rhonda with her mother because he did not think he was her father. Mother and George got Ronnie when he was born. Rhonda was not married at that time so shewas going to adopt him out. Mother and George could not bear the thought of strangers raising their grandchild so they asked Rhonda to let them take him so she gave him to mother and George to raise as their own child. They never legally adopted him, tho.

NAME Later research has found that the Greenhaw Family were of English descent. Some still maintain an Indian connection after settling in the U S but this has not been proven out, yet.NAME Research also indicates that the Greenhaw families that did come from Ireland were descendents of the families in England who had moved to Ireland so they are as far as known all related in some way.
