Death Notice, March 1882
Our Community was shocked on Saturday morning by the announcement that Henry Ashbaugh, one of the oldest and well-known citizens had died suddenly on Friday night, March 10, 1882. The cause of Death was ascertained to be disease of the heart.
Mr. Ashbaugh was in the 58th year of his age, and had resided here the greatest part of his life. He leaves a wife, 6 children, 2 children having gone before, several grandchildren.
He was a deeply earnest man, and full of strong convictions. For sometime he voted the prohibition ticket, when almost every other member of that party in this place threw to the support of one of the other of the two leading parties. He was strongly religious, and had been a member of the M. E. Church of this place for over 40 years, and a classleader for 37 years. Socially he was agreeable and pleasant.
The funeral on Sunday from the M. E. Church, where Pastor Williams preached the sermon, was one of the largest ever witnessed. He was buried by the I.O.O.F. of which order he was a worthy member - Gazette
