1870 census shows Lafayette Wilkes, age 13, b. Oregon living with Peyton and Anna. I doubt it is their child, probably a grand-child. Family history tells of him living near Lynchburg during that time. During the war of 1812, Peyton enlisted as a Private at Shingle Blocks on Goose Creek, Bedford co., Virginia. He served in Captain Wiley Jones' company of Virginia Volunteers and served from Sept 8, 1813 to March 10, 1814. He was first a drummer and later served in the Artillery.
